Going to be 70 here in WA Sunday.

Here's the plan: Meet at Lava Java - off I-5 Exit 14 (west side of freeway) on Sunday. There's a Chevron there in case you need to top off. We will LEAVE by 10:15 - slightly earlier than previously stated. We'll drive up the Washington side and may stop at a gas station in Naselle for those of you who drank too much coffee upon departure. Lunch at Dooger's (lots of parking and and they're directly across the street from go-karts. Cars will be safe there) and then we can do go-karts or whatever anyone happens to be in the mood for. Sound like a plan? Don't forget to set your clocks FORWARD one hour Saturday night!!! Debra Love (https://www.facebook.com/debra.love.940) - please email to club. If anyone has questions, they can email me at [email protected]

I can't stress enough how many times I've said similar things to people. Sometimes it saddens me when I see people who have no right being parents of anyone...not to mention 4-5 kids....and then we have several pairs of very good friends who are not able to have children of their own and yet they would be fabulous parents. It just seems really out of whack to me....nature can be fickle.

That's why #2 needs to be a left handed boy. A good curve ball makes him a near lock for a full ride for baseball at a good college and then a long career in MLB.

or he could be a cadet at A&M and have a long career as a military officer.

Should be around 50 here tomorrow.

Went down to the river today ...the big tankers (pushed by huge tug) require an ice breaker to run interference for them ...the local ice breaker here at the Coast Guard station is too small, so the BIG ice breakers the Coast Guard has down in NJ are the 'escort' ships -- pretty wild sound too as it breaks it up.

Hope I can catch ice-out in a couple weeks -- sometimes it's spectacular!

I worked on the USCGC ice breaker Healy for a few years as a civilian getting the propulsion and guidance system straightened out. A flat bottom boat is a completely different ride on the sea than a standard boat. We put it through some interesting rides when we would have to make test sea trails.

Awesome!! That is much bigger than the breakers we see from NJ Coast Guard station and our local breaker at the Saugerties CG station ...all we have here is a small breaker and a buoy-tender -- which is a very cool ship that I've been through a couple of times.

Here's some pics from yesterday ...I think this breaker must be due for an engine overhaul?

Funny thing: the head of the EPA was before Congress just recently and they asked her how much CO2 is in the atmosphere today vs historically. She had no idea  and after several attempts at the question and her dodging it (because she was cluless) they told her how much (tiny amount) and asked how she could risk impacting so many US businesses and so many jobs, and how this could be such a high EPA prioroty (that they want to prevent things tranditional BBQing! -doh) etc ...of course there was no answer. :doh2:

Bureaucrats only continue being bureaucrats if they continue to make work for themselves. They only expand their empires if they can make more work for themselves tomorrow than they have today. QED.

Exactly ...no gov't program ever actually ends... unless the money can be 'stolen' to use for more political leverage elsewhere ...in which case taxes are raised anyway since it could otherwie seem saomething was actually ended :doh2: :haha:

About 3 days ago we had some serious winds (news said "up to" 90 mph) and about 3-4" of rain in 6 hours. Power was out for 23 hours at our house. One of my rentals had a tree in back that was partially knocked over and fell on the neighbor's porch...ruined a few windows and their air conditioning unit. I'd guess about $6k-$10k damage.

Then as I've been driving around town the past few days I've snapped a few photos of some of the worst damage. In that one pic, you can see the asphalt drive lifted. When I first saw that house, there was a car parked on it and the front end of the car was 6' in the air...but by the time I came back past an hour later and took the photos, they had moved the car.

The only thing we lost was our milk. Frozen goods stay safe for about 28 hours. I was about ready to transport it all to a friend's house.

No we don't have a generator....

1) Frequency of storm bad enough to cause food to spoil - once in 10 years
2) Cost of generator - $5,000
3) Cost of new food - $500

There's a difference between "trimming", "raising the canopy", "topping", and "removing". We need some of each done. And the location of the tree is critical...we have one that's in a back yard with no easy access...they'll have to tear out a section of our fence just to get a bucket truck in there. The cost of the fence repair alone is $400.

We notice it here too. In the valley proper (only 4-8 miles away) it's typically 10* warmer than here this time of year ...and we're only at about 425' !! Up in the mountains proper it's often 20*F

Charleston has had A LOT of snow in the past couple of weeks. And the overnight low in the valley has been below freezing more often than not the past few weeks. My pool automation kicks into "freeze prevention" mode below 36 and was still there at 10:00. Lots of frost kill to tender plants. We have an aloe plant in a pot that will probably not survive.

Was 40s and sunny here today -- beautiful!

Looks like the normal mid-January warm-up is a couple weeks late this year but the real cold is probably still ahead.
Maybe Punxsutawney Phil will break his 6-more-weeks pattern this year :shades:

Now people are crying in Pacifica about the ocean eroding the cliff that there apartment is sitting on. it happens every year. They look out the window and see the ocean getting closer then bit** when they are told to move. What are they going to do ride it down the cliff. We have had some high surf here in recent months.

yeah, I think I'd have moved about 10 years ago! :yikes:
It's so strange to see dirt cliffs that high near the ocean. Here in the NE it would be solid rock. Probably when those apartments were built the ocean was a few hundred feet away. Leetle by leetle :rofl3:

Vegas is finally getting out of the El Nino flows. They have left us mostly overcast for the past week or so. High clouds that keep it from getting too cold at night but prevent the sun from warming during the day. My forecast on the phone shows 71 on Saturday.
