Will probably be putting mine up for sale soon. Trying to figure out best advertising strategy and pricing...any thoughts appreciated.

Alloy Gray coupe with silver stripes, engine mods include TVS, smaller upper pulley, better shifter, BMR rear control arms with urethane suspension bushings and adjustable UCA. Driveshaft safety loop, aluminum driveshaft, custom tune, larger throttle body, cold air kit, and several other things. I can provide more details if anyone is seriously interested. I had it dyno tested before the larger throttle body and it tested 618 RWHP...so probably slightly higher now. 19,000 miles. I have drag radials (fairly worn) on the rear at the moment, but do have the original tires still in great shape if anyone would want those...not much traction though lol.

Mine was basically stock when I sold it last summer. Keep in mind to that mine was a convertible.

I tried the usual "Club" forum sites and never got any interest from them. I then went with the "normal" site such as Cargurus, Autotrader and such. Although I did get the usual "I can take that off of your hands for $12k" even though I had it listed for $32k I did get several serious inquiries on it through all of them. I can't remember which site the guy that bought mine was using but it worked for me. Sold it for $29,500 plus another $300 for the cover which got me close enough to the $30k I was hoping to get. I had the Shelby Razor 20" wheels on it and even though it looked good with those on everyone asked if I still had the original wheels and are they included.

My guess is from the questions I got and Tony's comments on trying to sell his GT40 is people are not interested in the mods you added nor are they willing to pay extra for them. They will ask if you have the original parts and if they included with the price of the car. Point being you will have to say that the original wheels and tires are included if you are leaving the slicks on.

I'll buy something to replace it, but not right away. I hope to just enjoy the Camaro for this year...we'll see about what happens after that. I do like the looks of the new Corvette...but the engine on the base car is WAY underpowered IMO and I don't know if I can tolerate the low seating position for ingress/egress given my knee problems. I guess I need a PORSCHE SUV that sits higher lol.

Anyone here use FB Marketplace? I'm thinking of listing my GT500 there. Never used it. One thing I want to be careful about is payment method....what methods should I accept for such a large transaction that's safe?

In my past experience, a certified check from a local bank is the most secure. Not sure I'd trust PayPal or Venmo etc. Ideas?

For payment you want certified check or wire transfer. For wire transfers the old "touch-feeley" method

1. If you've already got an account at the same bank you're golden... Both of you just go to the bank and have the person transfer to your account, then hand over the keys and paperwork. If the person is twitchy, have the paperwork held by the bank manager while the transfer happens.

2. If you don't have an account the person waits with you while you monitor your account to see that it is received then hand over the paperwork.

I'd be cautious about cash - there is enough counterfeit stuff out there that it's risky if you don't know. Bank again can check the bills.

Also, I'm not sure about the Facebook thing, but we have done some stuff with Craigs List. Mostly local transactions, makes hooking up at the bank easier.

Doubtful they will have the same bank...I use a local credit union. I guess another option would be if they use some "large" bank where we have a branch in our town, I could go open up an account at that bank just for this purpose, then close the account later. In your #2, when you say they should wait while I monitor my account, are you talking about if a wire transfer is done? If so, I think that can take an hour or so right? I would need to check with my bank on that. What do you mean by "touchy feely" method?

Yes, in option 2 at least with my credit union if a wire transfer is set up by mid morning it typically takes a couple of hours.

LIke you said, another option if you both don't have an account is for the other to open one and then transfer to it and then do the account-to-account transfer in person.

Touchy feely is you don't get the keys until I get the money. We did it on the playground - each handing the other the stuff in opposite hands.

PS. If your GT500 is in really good shape with low miles places like Auto Trader also work pretty well. I'd suggest Bring A Trailer but there are lots of GT500s so you're not likely to get much more than with a local transaction.

Highwayman

When I sold mine he showed up with a certified check and we went to the DMV together to transfer the title. He didn't use the same bank as me. The check exchanged hands at the proper point of the process there.

I listed mine in a few places, the sale ultimately resulted from AutoTrader. I did list it in some of the forums and on Facebook related groups but not on Facebook Market Place. I have listed many things for sale on Facebook but always in groups, never in the open Market Place.

I hate doing these large transactions. I’ve had Craigslist scammers try to send me a certified check also. I would make sure a bank says those checks are real.

When I sold my Shelby we went to his credit union and they wrote out a certified check w me present.

I sold a Jeep once for $12,500 cash before, but that can be sketchy like Vegas Boy said. Lol

Check these sites that buy cars, I’ve heard some guys were very surprised what they were offered for their cars.

$40,250

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2007-ford-gt-500-40/

Buyer pays an additional amount to the website...I think it's 5%?

Alloy Dave

I don't recommend bringatrailer.com

I spent over an hour comprising photos, a write-up, and answering about 50 questions about my car, and submitted it. They came back with "We think a reserve of $32k is what you should set". I said "no, I want a higher reserve." They said "I'm sorry, that doesn't meet our requirements, thank you for your time". So in other words, you can sell your car for the price THEY think is appropriate.

Grrrrrr

SOLD the GT500 today. Got slightly less than I wanted, but got it from a local person, cashier's check from their bank, and all done in one day...easy peasy...so all is good.

Will start looking for another sports car, but I am NOT going to pay these high dealer markups on Z06 Vettes and so on...so it will probably take about 1-2 years before I actually have a car in the garage.

I will miss the Shelby, it was a great running car...but it was time for a change.

Lots of reports lately about the prices of used cars coming down. That's one of the reasons I sold the GT500 recently...I could have waited another year but I feared things would change. I got a reasonable price for the car...so I'm happy with my decision even though I will miss driving it come warmer weather. I still have the Camaro to drive, and hopefully within a couple years I'll have another "newer" hi-perf car also...have to be patient.
