My truly ancient regular old battery charger croaked on me last year and I never got around to replacing it. Today my truck battery is dead and before checking warranty (it might be out) I've got to charge it. Since the full capacity charger isn't an option I threw on my trickle charger/tender and it will probably get it back to live good enough to start to see if it is the battery or if it just went down. It's hotter than hades here, and the truck sits outside and it's probably been 3 or 4 weeks since I drove it so I'm not surprised it died.
Anyway, it made me think of replacing the full-boat charger. The old one fried itself but it was probably 20 maybe 30 years old (you know, you just don't use one of these every day, or week, or month, so they last a long time). Might have been a Sears. Probably had a lifetime warranty. I put it in the trash and somebody else probably got a free charger.
I remember it having a high capacity mode for "jump starting", and also a 6V/12V mode because I used it on the 6V batteries in the Cobra too.
Anyway, there are so many out there now on Amazon, Autozone, Walmart, etc that it boggles the mind. Anyone have any recommendations?
The new one should probably be compatible with the Odyssey type batteries so that may limit choices.
