View Full Version : Bills are a rising

I realize gas has gone up, but it always seems to go up and down over time. Thinking this time it may stay up. :(
But today got our new electric bill and it jumped $47 a month. We do the budgeted bill so it’s the same each month so that means it went up $564 a year :nonono:
Been hearing natural gas about to jump, but haven’t got that bill yet.
On a better note I switched all our phones from Verizon to T-mobile which cut our bill in half. :wtg:

We’re hoping the electric bills on our new mini-split HVAC system isn’t too terrible this winter. The system was kerosine which is approaching $5.00/gallon so maybe we lucked out somewhat but, yeah, the cost of everything is going up …auto and home insurance too and food!

I moved 2 of our vehicles from Allstate to Hagertys last week and cut those bills in half also.
They were the only two to qualify for their type insurance.

We got an email PR blurb from our gas company about how good a citizen they are.
Embedded in it was a statement
"With natural gas prices expected to increase nationwide this year..."
with a footnote that says price increases are passed through.

Prices definitely up on many things. Time to raise the price you charge.

I already charge more than others because of the quality of work, problem is there are less than 1/2 the amount of cars coming down the line.
I’m in a position that these price increases aren’t killing me. I know many people will be tied down even more though and it just makes more pissed off people I have to deal with. Lol
As far as gas, the company I work through pays 90%+ of my gas for now.

How can that be? Biden says there is no inflation so it must be so. He saw it on the internet. Or maybe he dreamed it. Who knows, he's senile.

Pool chemicals have gone through the roof. For one it will literally be cheaper to replace the 20K gallons of water than to try to treat the phosphates. Chlorine tabs used to be a 50 lb pail for about $25. Now it's over 200. Claims of three plants that make them, one destroyed in a hurricane the other in a fire so the remaining gets to control supply and demand. The others are supposed to be on line by now, but do you think the price will go down?????

People thought Jimmy Carter was the best thing since sliced bread until he brought you double the gas price (of course then that was $1.00) and 18% mortgages. Biden's spend more than you can possibly ever make up with taxes is starting to collapse. Even the libs are thinking that attacking the assets (not an income tax, but a standing still asset tax) of the top 100 richest people in the US ("The billionaires") is going a little far. They promise an exit tax. I'll exit before the exit tax can be on the books. Besides, the Canary Islands are really nice place to live even if you aren't trying to tax shelter.

And the billionaire asset tax polled so poorly with the general public that they seem to backing off on that too and trying to substitute taxing only the annual increase in assets.

Neither will fly with a court challenge. Assets often DECREASE in value. You get taxed when your $20M painting goes UP in value (oh, who sets the value?) so do you get a credit when it goes down? The only way you can legally tax something is when value is established by the fair market, and that is when they are sold, and that's called a capital gains tax (or loss.)
An asset tax can't be considered "fair". If you have 1M in assets and tax it at 10%, next year it's only worth 900K. Then 810K, and so on until it approaches zero... So the asset tax simply, a year at a time, reduces the standing value of that asset until it falls below the threshold. That makes everyone "middle class". Sounds like socialism to me. Hell, if they do it I'd just take all my money and go to Monte Carlo and play baccarat. I'll either win or lose. If I lose it's no worse than what the government will do to me anyway, and if I win I leave the money in Monte Carlo... In other words, such a tax is an invitation for US capitalists to invest in places other than the US where the tax codes are favorable. Even Russia probably beats this scheme.

At least lumber is down….reached a peak of about $1,600 per thousand board feet, now under $600. Still higher than pre-pandemic levels though.

I bought a modest position in copper just as the pandemic hit…made good money on that…sold it. I have some TIPS also, helps during inflation.

I see some things jumping big time, but I haven’t bought much but groceries in the last year. Saving whatever I can right now. I did buy a trans upgrade for my Mustang which I should have done a year ago… that price went up about $500 in one year. :(

Yes, inflation is evident nearly everywhere.
A few exceptions though (at least compared to a year ago) such as lumber.

I warned all my Democrat friends that before the 2022 elections they would regret their vote in 2020. Now most of them won't even admit who they voted for.
Biden didn't win, Trump lost. When you vote against the other guy you'd better be careful because you might regret that choice.
"Who Elected Biden?"
"Not Me".

Gas here is @ $6.00 a gallon Diesel is $6.69 a gallon I now give them a $100 bill and say fill it., 1/2 tank in the truck will eat the whole **** thing. The loons here love this crap. They now want to increase our property tax 6% so they can build some real classrooms. This is stupid because the cost now it through the roof. They also want to increase our sewer tax so some folks outside of town can get on the city sewer. With everything costing so much they keep coming at us for more money.
It's not creeping anymore it's in our face.

Social Security COLA gonna be big. Got the email that we can sign on 1-Dec to see how big our next checks will be.
Tax brackets going up as is the std. deduction.
These are a gift from Biden since he still insists there is no inflation.

Unfortunately what is happening is that those who leave CA and come to Vegas (and our experience in CO echoes) is that they leave there with a ton of cash in their hands, buy for cash in NV or CO (or AZ, UT, ID, etc) but then they bring their mindset with them and pretty soon, your state won't allow gasoline cars and natural gas stoves or furnaces either.

We just made a trip to Tennessee to check it out. We both liked what we saw. It's a big deal to pack up and move to another state. Just think about all the things you need to start over in the new place. It cost about $20,000 for the moving truck. We are getting close to pulling the trigger though.

Tennessee is a great state in many ways. Moderate taxes, good weather, affordable, etc. The Nashville area is very nice. Brentwood is nearby and is an area we have looked at moving to someday, although it's not at the top of our list.
