I was at the dealership today to meet zeefree and while I was chatting with my salesman he mentioned that a guy who bought a 2010 from them and sent it to vegas to get SS'd, is having a hard time getting it back into Canada...

What were to happen if he just drove it back across the border? Does his title change because of the SS mods?

That's an updated list from the Government, Dog.
Interesting.
If the guy has sent a Canadian or even a legally imported GT500 that was registered and plated in Canada to Vegas, he should not be having a problem getting it back in.
This is strange, he made need to get a good customs broker to sort it out though.
The situation seems very odd.
On an other note, it is interesting that they have included Roush, they have been imported for years by a few dealers and there are many 07-09 Roushes rolling around in Toronto but now that I think about it, I have not seen a '10 or '11 Roush.

As far as the border goes there is a reason you answer "no" when they ask all those questions coming through....
Hmmm...thought they sold '09 KR's here? I was sure I saw one at Freedom last year when I was in but maybe it was a leftover '08

VK, the 09KR is not on the excluded list.

Yeah it is odd as there are lots of 07 - 09 supersnakes that were sent to vegas and returned to Canada... Guess the government is cracking down... They figure he will get his car granfathered in as was sent and accepted by Shelby before the rule change... But as it is right now the transport company that TOOK the car down there, won't bring it back because of the new regulations...

Why do I see a business opportunity in this....
Driving people's cars back and forth to mod shops so owners can avoid the hassles of using transport companies.
It wouldn't be so bad.

I think this is the paragraphs #4 and #9 (http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/safevehicles/importation/usa/vafus/list2/Explanations.htm) they talk aboutin the exclusion. Could it be that Shelby disables or modifies (in some/any way) the factory Electronic Immobilization System for some reason on the SS conversion such that Canada requires it to be recerted to comply with CMVSS 114?
If memory serves, didn't an SS mod soehow how the interior motion detector on the rearview mirror works? Could be the whole problem?
Dunno about Roush/Saleen tho.

VK, the 09KR is not on the excluded list.
I wonder if that's because the KR is technically a straight from Ford Dealer vehicle and not post title conversion like the super snakes.

That makes sense since anything directly from Ford in Canada should meet all Canadian laws.

Whait there is an Immobilization feature in it? I thought the engine was a gas guzzler to keep the car chases down to a minimum :rofl3:
Or maybe Canada doesnt let them in because they are too fast for Canadain streets and all that snow too

+1
I can see the Shelby one as one customer and a dealer both needed new parts for damaged KR's and the complaints over the nonsense expediting the parts to the Federal Government reached a high level.
The others are puzzling and I think Dan may have figured it out with the immobilizer issues. Immobilizers for the past few years two years are mandatory in Canada but as far as I know, not in the US so if this device is disabled by any of these tuners the vehicle would be inadmissible.
The Saleen thing may be a response to the cloudiness that surrounds the company now and the lack of confidence the Federal Government has in the companies long term stability and it's ability to honor warranties represented. JMO

Never mind, I got it to work. So if my GT500 has a electronic mobilization system what keeps it from immobilizing my car when I'm cruising at the posted speed limit? Is this part of the "black box?"

:lalala: One thing that is odd to me about that SS not making it back, why would that be when we've got Sean Hyland in Toronto, who's the only auth. speed shop to do the SS conversion. If we have SS conversion already in Canada, why would their be any issues? unless, there's something I wouldn't know.....

Taxes is one of my guesses... People were sending them down to get supersnaked and then not paying taxes on that 30 some grand when coming back into Canada...
The government wasn't getting their "share" so they cracked down on it...

one word: passport
Good point. If a Canadian SS his car in Vegas he would pay the state tax and then immediately apply to get it back as a non-resident, getting the car SNAKED at Sean's http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/ would mean 30K + 13% in Federal and Provincial taxes for an Ontario Resident or 5% for a Non Ontario resident.
