...btw, the MY22 Ranger is fully redesigned and with new underpinnings -- a little brawnier styled and built on the all-new Bronco platform (which, contrary to some mag articles is not built on prior Ranger but is a derivative architecture).

OMG, resurrecting the Maverick brand is only a touch above calling it an Edsel. Or Yugo.
Cheers.

Maverick was a hugely successful brand. Ford sold in it's first year nearly as many Mavericks (570,000) as Mustang did in it's first record-breaking year (617,000). Also I think Maverick is a fitting name for a little truck vs a car ...but what's in a name
Tony, there's rumor that I DON'T THINK IS TRUE, that ford will be reintroducing the Ranchero based on the now-Euro-only Focus platform (that prior Escape was based on) -- actually not a bad rendering but not sure there is much of a market for it now.

My wife had a 74 or 75 Maverick. The thing got 8MPG and maybe had 80hp. That with a 302 V8. It couldn't get out of its own way. We sold it when we got to Arizona. She got it new and we moved to AZ in the summer of 75 and she had it while teaching in Nebraska so probably 74. I called it "**** brindle brown".
I would love to see the Ute come back to the US. I thought about trying to import one once but it really was not cost effective.
Cheers.

Yeah, that was when the engines were choked. My dad had an earlier one (1970 or 71) and drove the heck out of it as a salesman. Don't recall mileage but was certainly better than the mid-70s 'gas-crisis' models.
Yeah, they were underpowered big-time but quite reliable. I think my dad's was the 170 CID (105HP?) straight-6 but not sure. There was also a 200 CID straight-6 that made all of 120HP I think
