    Barrett-Jackson cutting sites and frequency

For a long time BJ had 4 major events a year. Scottsdale in Jan is always the big one. Then they did Florida on the east in the spring and then vegas in the fall with reno and Connecticut.

For 2024 the schedule is Scottsdale in Jan, Florida coming up this weekend and Scottsdale in the fall.

Not only are thet cutting locations but going from 4 to 3 sites....

Collector cars are not where I'd be putting money
    Cheers.

Their last two events had multiple entire collections included which flooded the market. Not sure how most of them made out pricing wise but there seems to be more sellers than there are buyers again as the cycle continues to roll so it would be in their best interest to lessen the availability of the auctions.

I suspect it also has something to do with the pricing of the venue. In Vegas it was held at the Mandalay Bay convention center until the pandemic and then moved to a segment of the Vegas convention center (they're not big enough to get the whole thing). The northeast auction was at the Mohegan Sun casino and drew the same more luxury and special interest cars that the Florida auction does - not as many muscle cars.

I noticed the overall "collector car appeal" at the winter Scottsdale auction was a factor until much later in the auction. "Just every day cars" until late Friday morning. Usually some interesting things happen Thursday night but only a few...

So yeah, the auction prices (and thus their "take") went down so they need to run more higher end vehicles. They can do that by eliminating two locations.
    Cheers.

I like the fact that Mecum doesn't think that we all look at cars as if we are sitting on the floor. That has to be the biggest peeve I have with Barrett Jackson is the crappy camera angles.

Sounds like it may be time for me to buy that '70 340 Dart I have been wanting.

Agree, the average guy can’t get anywhere near those cars. I’ve always liked the old ‘Cuda but not something I’d pay $150K and up for. People use to always say you can find a bargain there, but it’s stuff no one wants. lol
